DUEM Exhibits DUSC2011 at the Discovery Museum
Whilst the team was hard at work in Durham on upgrades to our latest solar car, DUSC, DUEM have been exhibiting their previous generation solar car, DUSC2011, to visitors at the Discovery Museum in the heart of Newcastle. The museum is a hotspot for school tours and visits, giving students from a very young age an opportunity to see our innovation up close and to ask key team members about the car, the race and all things engineering.
DUSC2011 raced across Australia in, as the name suggests, the 2011 World Solar Challenge. After qualifying 3rd, the team completed a substantial proportion of the full 3000km distance, thanks to innovations including solar collectors – parabolic mirrors focusing the sun’s energy onto thin strips of high-efficiency solar cells, enabling higher energy collection in direct sunlight.
This is a fantastic location and opportunity for the team to showcase our technology as well as inspire students to think differently about our planet and pursue STEM-focused careers. This is just the beginning for us. Stay tuned for an exciting summer of events and updates.
